If what they said was true, then the grotesque and the monstrous ran in her blood. It was imprinted within her very core, her DNA, a part of every cell in her body.

Kat has always tried to treat Imogen and Jemima equally, but she struggles with one of her daughters more than the other.
Because Imogen's birth mother is a serial killer. And Imogen doesn't know.
They say you can't choose your family, but what if your family chooses you?
This started to make me cringe from quite early on, from where Kat has to go to the school to collect her daughter after she has attacked another pupil. All this thinking in the car, just way over done.
The kidnap of Imogen and her mother's attempts to find her without the police made me want to scream, it wouldn't work like that.
None of it was plausible and the twist at the end, while I didn't see it coming, was terrible.
I felt the author was grabbing at things to try and shock you, it did but only by how bad this was. The writing itself was OK, the plot didn't work for me.
